For One So Beautiful – Vincent Edward Manda

Down the river she came

And up the river she’s gone

‘See you on the other side!’ she whispered;

Her shout had been drowned

By the river’s crushing sound.

‘I don’t think so’ he replied

‘Unless you’re going to where it’s hot

And no one remembers a time they never once cried.

You’re too beautiful for such a place.’

And then he died

With the image of her flowing free on the river

Burnt in his eyes…

An eternity of fire

Would help him forget that smile on her face.

An eternity of fire,

For she’s gone and he can’t get grace.

his name rhymes with ‘mince’. He’s rarely without a notebook and can usually be found next to the closest bottle of red wine. Previously a writer for The Roehampton Lane Journal.
