Sober Smiley Face – Eduard Dantes

The darkest form of madness
Is hidden behind the veil of sanity.

They say hide the beast on a stage
Behind upturned curtains
That point up to the sky when opened
To show a straight row
Of perfect white bars
Beneath two glistening and symmetrical
Almost wet revealing moons.

If it snarls
Or threatens to break free
Widen the curtains
And pop a few pill shaped bullets
Through the widening gaps of the white bars
And watch the moons up above
Change shape and glaze over.

After all
A cage beast
Can harm nothing
Within its confines.
It can merely sit there
And commiserate
In a daze
Of ever changing shapes and sizes…

It can only withdraw
Deep into the mind
Beyond the firmest veneers
And fort walls
Until, within the castle

It finds something to bite!

his name rhymes with ‘mince’. He’s rarely without a notebook and can usually be found next to the closest bottle of red wine. Previously a writer for The Roehampton Lane Journal.
