The Wrestlers ~ Sean Wai Keung

We sit in the audience screaming

at each other this is our first date.

You have traveled a little farther than me

to be here but the guy who has traveled

the farthest is the guy screaming

SUBMIT SUBMIT in the ring his leg

all wrapped popping around the other guy

(who has also traveled far but not as far

as you or me or the guy standing over him).

Which means I guess that journeys make you stronger

or at least more willing to use your strength

and I think that this is probably true as you

meanwhile scream something at me

that I can’t hear but it sounds like SUBMIT SUBMIT

(although it could be STOP IT STOP IT) and I want

to stand up leave get in my car drive away from this

but I can’t do that and neither can you or the two guys or anyone else

and this makes the world feel so lethargic and slow

and I think hard about that as we both sit pinned to our seats

pretending we can’t hear each others sighs and gasps.
