Where We’d Like To Be ~ Bob Kesh

we’ve been talking
and dreaming like
drunk romantics
about where we’d like to be
some place where the beers are cheap
and the women beautiful
and the bars play blues all year round
where sex is as natural as rain
and men are measured by
the dexterity of their minds
and not just the
grit in their bones

and just before he fell off the table
and pulled the merlot and muddy coffee with him
one guy called it ‘America
that place we were all dreaming of
in America they call it Europe
they may as well call it the moon for all the good it does

and going through the pages of books
our minds running in footsteps of men
no bigger than us
know there is no
It’s in the journey
surrounded like a star
in a desert sky
sharing the last you have
to outlast the night
and spend days
like mystic rivers
with laughing souls
